As I’m preparing for my art show on November 1st I’m sorting through artwork from the last year. Here are three small paintings I really liked grouped together. The interesting thing is all three are painted on different surfaces using different techniques on different days.
The first is a canvas painting on top of an image my five year old drew for me. I remember this painting took longer than usual because I scraped and removed paint using a pocket knife to create the details of Jesus face.
The second is a yellow and brown painting that has been sanded with sand paper to give it a visual and worn history.
The third began as a peaceful blend of colors, but when I discovered Jesus in This Mess I found his eyes in the red area with a scar almost through his eye. This one is chilling yet beautiful to me.
Unplanned ahead of time, each of these remind me of how each of us have our own journeys and paths in finding Jesus. Some of us, like the first, must painfully go through every detail of life one slow step at a time. Other times we find ourselves repeatedly worn out and ground down and we must begin again, like the 2nd painting. Or in the third we find a scar amidst the beauty. Or maybe there was something blocking our view. Or it turned out differently than planned?
